The client brief was to produce a concept landscape masterplan for Marco Polo House located opposite Battersea Park on Queenstown Road London. It is located within the Greater London Authority’s Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area (VNEBOA). The site has a total land area of 1.27 hectares. The area is characterised to have high density residential development with opportunities for improvement to the environment and improved site access.
As part of the VNEOBOA, RSA needed to ensure the landscape masterplan considered the design of both private and public realm ensuring improvement to the environment and accessibility of the site. The concept design was to include roof terraces and gardens, sunken garden space, a tree top entrance walkway, private landscape gardens between buildings, public realm street landscape strategy, traffic and pedestrian circulation and hard landscaping and planting. The design was to be presented and approved by the client to a level sufficient to be used in discussions with Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and consultation with the Local Planning Authority (Wandsworth Council).
