Garden design in Eldon Road

Originally owned and laid out by the fashion designer Hardy Amies the garden was tired and needed rejuvenating. The pleached trees were retained from the original design but to satisfy the new client many structural changes were required. The original layout had no access from the ground floor, only through the lower ground. A new access was designed that leads down onto a new dining terrace. The old lawn to the centre was replaced with a ‘marble’ gravel area framed by playful clipped olive trees which mimic the retained pleached lime trees. To lead the eye through to new rear lounging terrace a pool and cascade were created to give a visual pause and create good feng shui for the space. Two sculptural cats belonging to the client were also incorporated as guarding sentinels to the water feature.

Agapanthus frames the cascade to either side and many climbing plants were introduced such as Tracheleospernum jasminoides, Jasminum varieties and Akebia quinata – the Chocolate vine. To the house structural elements were introduced to the main terrace and balconies utilising Bay trees and Buxus topiary elements.
