Landscape design for Langham Hotel, London
This Victorian landmark and flagship of the Langham Hotel group went through an £80m wholesale restoration incorporating a series of luxury and contemporary spaces. RSA were appointed by Great Eagle Holdings Ltd to provide the landscaping in keeping with this prestigious project. Their landscape needed to reflect the new contemporary interiors yet be compatible with the Hotel’s Grade II listed building status.
RSA created a series of decked gardens to soften and complement the hotel’s grey facade. This involved craning in mature trees imported from Italy, contemporary topiary and extensive feature lighting. A raised roof garden with six large trees and huge planters with scented and evergreen planting has given a verdant outlook, not only from the new Landau Restaurant, but also for passers-by on this corner of Portland Place.
A new courtyard garden underneath the hotel reception was installed in 2009. Imported trees, seating provisions and elegant stone decking to provide a haven of greenery for hotel guests to enjoy, and also transformed an old concrete roof that was a fire exit route.
