Garden design for The Old Garden
The property comprises a 3.2-acre garden overlooking the river. The brief was to take an established, tired garden from the early 20th century into the 21st century, while still keeping the structure (including many valuable mature trees) incorporating a simple, classic layout.
The overall framework of the garden was kept with a central axis leading from the house halfway down the garden to a centrally placed ‘D’, which marks the change of differing sections within the garden.
From this point, paths flow out in a classic Patte d’Oie (Goosefoot) format, forming an axis to the swimming pool, tennis court and Yew Walk. The overall effect is to give a more relaxed and elegant feel to the garden.
